This is the First Lego League (FLL) Food Factor project presentation given by the "Ghosts in the Machine" team from Mossville, Illinois. The team has six kids - three sixth graders and three eighth graders. We gave this presentation to the judges in the Illinois State FLL competition on January 21, 2012. Our innovative idea is to shock banana trees to protect them from the deadly Panama disease, which is threatening to wipe out our beloved Cavendish banana in the next 10 to 20 years. No known cure exists - our mission is to save the bananas! Plants protect themselves against fungi by making chemicals called phytoalexins. Banana phytoalexins kill Panama fungus, but bananas don't make enough. Plants given electric shocks produce extra phytoalexins, so our invention is to shock banana trees so that they make more phytoalexins. The presentation includes the musical number "Yes, We Have No Bananas!" accompanied by the ukelele. I hope you enjoy it and vote for our project. You can vote daily up to March 1, 2012 at this address: http://fllinnovationaward.firstlegole...

Thank You!!!!!
