If you read up on NeiR Replicant vs. NeiR Gestalt, you will read that the protagonists in each were designed to suit their respective audiences. Neir the BROTHER (my personal preference) was designed to appeal to their Japanese audience, hence, him being the protagonist of NeiR Replicant. Neir the FATHER was designed to appeal to the American audience, hence, his place in Gestalt.

Despite what some people think, the Square Enix actually did their homework when it came to marketing NeiR.

i Simpy dont understand why Square keeps putting out these games where they all look so damn elfish. All of em look like they would cry if they chipped a nail. Im just so bored with it. Even if the CG is stellar.

I think they put more thought into the character in Neir Gestalt than in Neir Replicant. Gestalt Character fits the storyline way better.
