is it gonna work on all computers even if it doesnt have truecrypt?

@MysteryMachine21 Thats exactly what I was thinking.

What's the point of encrypting a USB drive if you cannot take it to a random computer where there's no no truecrypt to read it? Isn't it better to make a container in the drive and carry truecrypt in the drive instead?

@MrJozef1988 I have that dilemma. Do you know any other way to encrypt a thumb drive with truecrypt AND carrying truecrypt in the same drive so that it runs off the drive on any random computer?

Can you please make a new tutorial in where you explain how hidden volumes work, I find you explain things quite throughly & it would be very helpful.

Mate this wont work if you dont have install TrueCrypt on the computer you using. Because windows will keep showing warning message about formatting.
You external usb or Hard Drive will be useless on random computer. If you want to make this work you need carrying 2 things:
1: encrypt Hard drives or USB
2: small USB that contain portable version of TrueCrypt
only than you can use yours enrypt Hard Drive or USB on random computer

Thanks a lot for taking the time posting this. Very helpful.

Would this process work for an external (usb) Hard Drive?
Also:
Make sure the container file doesn't stand out by naming it something totally innocuous, and keeping the size low (by today's standards). It will take forensic analysis to check and see that the data in the file is totally random (which isn't normally likely) and determine there is an encrypted container on the computer. Although each time you use the volume, the time/date stamp will change.

Yes. I have been planning on an advanced tutorial for a while. Just trying to carve out the time.
@MysteryMachine21
Correct. There are often significant advantages to NOT having Truecrypt installed on the computer, and having the "Portable" version on the memory stick. It is then more difficult to even detect that there are encrypted files on the computer because TrueCrypt isn't even installed.
