  • @BAdamT2002 But seriously and honestly, this is a TERRIFIC recording. The choir has fantastic clarity and tone. I love it.

  • @BAdamT2002 And the music clearly indicates that it should be prais-ed.

  • @BAdamT2002 I don't know about that..all the words are exactly the same as my Schirmer edition except for the march..I don't understand why it couldn't just have been the original English as translated by Cain. I don't think taking away just a phrase would add power or clarity to the piece at all..and the words that were taken out aren't difficult to understand..rather, I think it takes away the power of the piece.

  • @barrypotter09 or "praised."

  • @barrypotter09 Further, it's just a new English text underlay taken from the original Russian. Think of it as the NRSV, rather than the KJV.

  • @barrypotter09 I think the changes add clarity, making it easier to understand the text, further making it more powerful. Examples of awkwardness in dynamics and pacing?

  • Also, it should be prais - ed.

  • @kj33wr Yeah they did. It's "With undefiled lips ever more thy glory to be praised, art thou worthy to be praised ever more thy glory to be praised. Worthy art thou to be praised ever more. Art worthy to be praised ever more." Not sure why they would change the text...I really don't see any reason for it. I think it actually takes away from the power of the song. Also the dynamics and pacing is rather awkward in places.

  • Hey for those of you who sang in this particular recording, did you by any chance change up the words in the mens section or something? You kept singing worthy to be praised over and over and I remember something else in the text.

  • @BAdamT2002 Adam I suppose that this is where my background in instrumental conducting conflicts with that of choral conducting. Perhaps I am simply uneducated and trying to apply principles across the fields which don't or can't exist. For now I will have to stand corrected, and we shall agree to disagree. After all who am I to criticize a man who has spent countless hours not only earning his degrees but earning the endearment and respect of students and musicians alike?
