  • I have blocked the charming callaprima. And if I see any comments like that from him anywhere else I will report him.

  • I had never even heard of Dave Allen till I read the Peter Kay autobiogrophy, now I can't get enough of his comedy, I do think its a shame that the BBC don't show vintage comedy sketches like this so newer generations can watch and become fans.

  • Ah, but this was taken from his last series which was actually on ITV! Really, his family should be encouraged to release everything.

  • Hurray for Dave Allen!!!

  • I remember watching him in the 70's and 80's on Chicago, TV. I never saw the Davy part before. My name is Dave also, and I remember the different ways people called my name, except I knew I was in trouble when I heard my middle name also. When I heard David John, I was gone like a flash. I knew complete meltdown was coming when my mom called me. She always started off with my brother and sister's names, she even used the dog's names... before she got to me. By then I knew I was in for it.

  • thanks to femaleanimal for uploading this. Remember it well. I could watch him all night and not get bored. Love the one about his name!

  • Thank goodness!!! Someone else with a great taste in comedy!!!!! Dave Allen to me, was the best stand up and sketch show King.......Even today he would give so called comics a beating!!! He was highly respected in the comedy world... Even comics like Dara O'Brien say he was one of his favorites and one of the reasons he does stand up.... A CRACKING COLLECTION OF MY FAVOURITE COMIC!!!

  • Thanks for uploading this. He really was a great comic.

  • So many comedians from the 70/80s just dated or relied on catch phrases or their routine just could not update without becoming an embarrassment. But he wasn't a comedian, he was a raconteur, a relater of the absurdity of human life, not a teller of gags. I remember the spit-wash too! He would have made a brilliant sit-com scriptwriter I reckon.

  • The guy was a great genius .Today's people do not realise how immense observation skills in life ,and knowledge are required to reach this point.

This is why Dave Allen will be the best stand up comedian for long time.

  • @slaxxxer Yes, me too!!! I have some of Bill's dvds. I wonder if they ever met. Doubtful.

  • Dave Allen at his best as always.

  • @steinwaygrande1 That's a good question... I don't really know how popular either of them were around the world, though Dave did TV in Australia as well as the UK and toured extensively with his stand up act, earning plaudits in America and Europe for his material.

Both he and Victor Borge are a sad loss to entertainment. Thankfully I can relive some of the funniest moments ever committed to film here on youtube :)

  • @potstillbill . Oh yes I agree, but there humour was, as you said, "poles apart" and I dont know if Dave Allen ever reached the same number of audiences as Mr Borge did. Be interesting to know how many countries Dave Allen toured compared to Victor Borge. I remember seeing Borge in South Africa in 1970, in the UK in 1979 and in Australia about eight months before he passed away. After we had booked to see him again we heard on TV that he had died and we were refunded our money. A sad loss

  • @steinwaygrande1 Borge was genius indeed, but his approach to comedy was poles apart from Dave Allen's. Still, I love to see old clips of the 'Clown Prince of Denmark' also!
