in honnor of the 25th anniversary of Sqaure one TV here another Mathnet Case:

Plot:

Pat and George are invited as guests on the Donnawhy talk show to speak about the importance of mathematics for Math Awareness Week. George, however, is irate -- and gets himself kicked off of the show -- when another guest, Captain Philip Francis Bogey Queeg, claims to have escaped sea monsters in the Bermuda Triangle and shows footage from old horror films as evidence. High school student and boat enthusiast Trudy Ebbtide contacts the Mathnetters and confides with them the true story about Queeg; they were searching for the H.M.S. Twain, a shipwreck loaded with treasures that her ancestor sailed. Finding the treasure could prove that Gramps Ebbtide was not a traitor.

  • OMG I loved this show growing up please keep posting I can't find them anywhere thank you

  • 0:11 twin towers on the side?!

  • Ha! I live in Pocatello Idaho :)

  • When I saw this as a kid, Captain Queeg and all the "Caine Mutiny" references went right over my head! Being able to catch them now makes it so much deeper.

  • @Marbles471 I do indeed. It seems random what Pat did, and I'm not sure about Ms. Sheehan's conclusions, but I can do no better than hers.

  • @OneWeirdDude

You mean Jill The Pill of that web forum?

If I hadn't stumbled on that thread I never would have put two and two together about that "appointment"....

  • 00:54 did Mathnet HQ change locations from the other place in New York? What's the location of this HQ as opposed to the other NY Mathnet HQ?

  • Boy. Mathnet sure had some really dangerous cases for a CTW show (or at least a segment of a CTW show).

  • Oh yeah, this was an awesome episode. Great to have up for viewing. Incidentally, Ed Sala, who plays Captain Queeg, is one of the regular narrators for the audio company Reccorded Books Inc.

  • Trudy looks like Anne Hathaway but sounds like an old friend of mine.

0:30 "They didn't eat food, just brown bags."

3:00 George gets more upset here than I remember on other episodes.

17:58 There was no easy way to insert this, huh.

    23:15 It's Little Louie!

25:07 He named it after a mongoose? Or not....

    31:40 (Ouch my ears.)

34:09 Jill caught something I missed here.

43:55 Walking. I used to think that was typing.

100% of SQ1TV is brought to us by CTW. Abbreviations!
