SCENE Joe is at the storage place
"Dumb rain" Joe's POV
I took my keys off the man behind the counter and thanked him. I walked out the door and saw Demi stood leant against my simple black car. I smiled at her and she smiled back, stroking the hood of the car.
"I missed this sweet little car."
"I told you to use it whenever you wanted."
"I couldn't do that. It's yours. Plus... I would've crashed it."
"Bu-no y-I tr-you wo... yeah you would've." I smiled.
She laughed and punched my chest playfully. "Thanks for the faith."
"Come on. We'd better drop you off. Mom will kill me if I'm late."
I decided to park half a block away and walk the short distance to the house. Just as I was walking up the driveway, I heard some thunder and I looked at the sky, a huge black cloud had appeared above the city. I sighed and walked up to the door, planning to use my key as a surprise. How I should've guessed that wouldn't be the case.
I put one foot on the bottom step leading up to the porch and the door opened, revealing a fully grown Elvis and Mum holding him back.
"Joseph!!"
I smiled and jumped the two remaining steps, holding my arms open. "Hi Mum." But before I could hug her, Elvis escaped her hold on him and jumped up. He was now big enough to get his paws on my shoulders. "Or hi Elvis."
"Elvis! Walkies!" I heard Nick yell but I heard two sets of feet come down the stairs. Elvis ran into the house and Mum came and hugged me. "Come on Miley, hurry up!"
"I'm coming. Jeez, I am wearing heels!"
I smiled. "Go Miley!"
"JOE!!" heels clicked along the hallway floor and she ran outside, jumping on me. "How was it? Tell me!"
"I will. I just need to breathe!"
She landed on her feet and smiled at me. "Don't go anywhere. Nick and I are going to take Elvis for a walk."
After Nick and Miley had gone, Miley promising to show me a photo of her new boyfriend and bring him round for interrogation, Mum led me into the kitchen and sat me in one of the barstools while she rushed around the kitchen. Within five minutes I had a plate of brownies in front of me with a tall glass of milk. The exact same thing she sent me off with.
She sat in the stool next to me and wrapped her hands around the mug of coffee on the side. "Tell me all about it. I can't wait to hear about this girl you met in Italy."
"Well, her name is Danielle and she is getting married. She invited me and a guest, so I'm going to take Demi; she's always wanted to go there."
"That's great, darling. When did you get back?"
"Yesterday afternoon. And I was just walking around and stuff when I bumped into Demi. I stayed on her sofa."
She reached over and hugged me. "I'm so glad you're back, Joseph."
I shut the door to my car and shook my head to release some of the wetness. The rain hadn't stopped in three hours, making the roads hard to drive on. Because of this dumb rain, I was late to pick Demi up, so she was sat on the steps of the rehearsal studio huddled into a guy's jacket. I stopped the car and she ran to get in the passenger side.
"I am so sorry Dems," I apologised. "The roads were really hard to drive on."
"It's ok," she smiled at me and adjusted the heater. "Rob only left a like 10 minutes ago."
"Sorry."
"It's ok. Let's just get home." She hugged me and kissed my cheek. I smiled and pulled away from the curb. "But, Joe, just wondering, how long are you planning on sleeping on my couch?"
"I can check into a hotel if you want."
"No! I was just wondering."
"Well, I thought we could go apartment hunting tomorrow, if you haven't got rehearsals."
"Sure. We can do that." She smiled at me and all I could think about was how beautiful she looked, even after being in the rain.
