I had a 89 just like that it would run perfect until it got hot then it would run like crap sometimes not run at all it was the coil pack ...

I have an 89 Dakota, 3.9 V6, but mine is carb, its got a 2 barrel Holley. THe guy i got it from took off the Smog pump so the check engine light is always on and it idles a tad but too high.

I have a 92 and have replaced the fuel pump 3 times since I bought it new. I have known others to have replaced theirs more. It's very common for those to go bad and work sometimes.

@kgwrld yeah chevy for life man i got 400,000 miles on my never rebuilt 350 sub urban

Yea, I dunno if it'd be the same.. but on my 89 Ford F-150, it was the oxygen sensor for the "check engine" light. As for the fuel pump.. replace the fuel filter, and clear out your lines, hook it back up and run some good gas with an injector/fuel cleaner through it, and see if it helps - if not, then.. I dont know. lol.

wrong! buy a Dodge for life, Chevys make dodgies (steel wise tho.. lol)

Put a redneck gas tank on it. :)
fuel pump relay , possible crank sensor , take a sample of gas to make sure no water in it , check connections to computer, check dist. cap and rotor
goodluck
