I seen one of these a few weeks ago with my gf. It was moving in and out of a small cloud and it was shooting some kind of wave beam through the cloud,it looked just like this!!

the area is called the burlington vortex! (not the peewee ice hockey team) call the sci-fi cafe in burlington for the ufo society there!

another big ufo hotspot is burlington wisconsin! call mary sutherland at the sci-fi cafe burlington! burlington area has ghosts! (too many!) and bigfoot are bray road werewolf sightings!...i did not believe any x-files stuff until I went to burlington wi! / @ milwaukee

Strange, the lanterns idea seems good but they've only really become popular in the past couple years and everyone does seem generally surprised. They do seem to be moving with the wind (all in the same general direction and normal weather effects could explain the changes in altitude). Only problem is that they're very bright for lanterns, i'm not sure a normal camera could pick them up so well and there's not a night vis camera being used (you'd see the ground etc in more detail).

They are sky lanterns and the flashes you see are fireworks which are on a long fuse... The lantern fly's for around 20 minutes and the firework fuse can be anything from a 2 minute fuse to 15 minute.
I'm pleased you guys were so enthralled with these.

this is a good video. the guy's voice and apparent motion, the other people, and a good frame of reference. if only we had a little better look at it. still, this is great footage.
