According to Hindu mythology, the demon king Hiranyakashipu tried to kill his own son Prahalad because he refused to worship his father and instead chose to remain loyal to Lord Vishnu. After several unsuccessful attempts at killing Prahalad, the king's evil sister Holika offers to burn the boy in her lap as she has received a boon that protects her from fire. But his piety for Vishnu protects Prahalad and the fire consumes Holika in spite of her boon. The burning of Holika is celebrated as Holi. Today, Holi the festival of colors, is celebrated by playing with "Rang" or colored powder and with "Dol Yatra" or a procession of the idol of Lord Krishna. In this piece, these various aspects of Holi will be depicted in the Bharatanatyam style of dance.
