@seanpussynipples Florida gave money this money? they might have given a percentage but the city of miami and miami-dade county is providing the majority of the tunnel money.
@seanpussynipples Because Miami is closer to Panama than Jacksonville is. This is part of a huge project to prepare the port for the the Panama canal's expansion project to be completed by 2014. Plenty of ports from New York to Miami are considering modifying these ports for the megaships that will be in use after Panemax. so far, the only port suitable now is Norfolk. IMHO, this project is more useful than Obama's High-speed rail.
@MELISSA84008 left to folks like Melissa we would not have bothered to make use of inventing FIRE because we might just burn our fingers. Not worried I am sure there is some reason God made pessimists too.
The tunnel is over-reinforced with rebar to prevent such incedents as terrorist attacks. I know this because I work at the steel plant where they are building the segmants for the tunnels.. ;]
WASTE OF MONEY. Florida can give away 1 billion dollars to fund this project but can't give a cent to the Jacksonville port. Thats a damn shame. Miami always gets 1st priority in this hell hole state and I'm sick of it!
