God I love this piece and I really enjoy revisiting this video every so often. It's like taking that chocolate break to someone that's on a strict diet!

@jazzvibe I actually live in the cleveland area. Im going to school as an undergrad for music, and starting to look for grad programs. Your school sparked an interest in me. I've been trying to find an e-mail that i can reach you at but i cant seem to find it, so ill just tell you on here, haha. But, yea, im interested in heading down there for a lesson if you're up for it. Could you give me an e-mail i can reach you at? I dont check youtube very often.

@wiliscool, i always tell my students 'it doesn't sound like the tune, make it sound like the tune.

@wiliscool it's not really prepared. however i created an etude where i figured it out. but normally, it's not prepared but i have these sort of techniques or whatever you call them. just years of work. you live near philadelphia? come down sometime and we can hang for a bit. but otherwise, clarity is the answer, get clear voicings and clear lines and then you put that together. i know it's vague, but there's not too much more to it. it's the process that takes hours, days and years i think.

@jazzvibe Yea, that helps a little bit. Im wondering though, when you're playing this, or in your bluesette and east of the sun video, are you improving your left hand accompaniment while you play the head and solo, or do you prepare the accompaniment ahead of time? Ill be sure to check out your website, seems like a good source for knowledge.

@wiliscool yo wiliscool. it's pretty hard to sum up in a paragraph. but i think, make sure your lines are together, that is you can solo with no accompaniment. because if you can play the changes in your lines you can not worry so much about the accompaniment and then it gets a lot easier. with a melody, you know most of the time you can leave out the root and the fifth. so work on your rootless voicings. hope that helps a little bit. check out vibesworkshop dot com

Hey tony, i love your playing. Your videos have inspired me to start writing my own solo arrangements on vibes, but i've reached a brick wall. I was wondering if you could explain to me how to get yourself to the point where you can accompany yourself while you're soloing? That would be great help for me. But like i said, great playing.
