Video of my two tries at Maat on 70RDM meleeing, one loss and one win.
*Note*
Brought full mage gear to enfeeble, and MP gear for convert. As well as almost a full set(every slot) of DD gear-Joyeuse, assault jerkin, rutter sabatons, optical hat(that I opted to use AF hat anyway), darksteel buckler(it helps!), amemet+1 and other DD accessories.
I don't think all these items are necessary to Melee him to death, except the Joyeuse will make it a lot easier.
*note 2*
Sword, shield, evasion, parry are all capped. Which helps as well.

  • That doesnt look like a joyeuse, why does it look so different?

  • I was on a .dat swapping kick, that is just a Hofud image replacing the joyeuse

  • Great show, congrats.

My only suggestion for anyone else trying this is to use a Hard Shield. The Darksteel Buckler is actually a horrible idea - size 1 shields are the worst at reducing damage, while Size 3's (the ones that PLDs use) are the best.

  • Red mage's shield skill is too low for a good proc rate anyway, so I wasn't concerned in the slightest about what type of shield to use. An additional 100 damage reduced through the whole fight isn't going to make or break the fight, except by a fluke proc at 100 hp.

  • why does ur joy toy and elemental staves look soo different?!. . . what is different about those?

  • dat swapping you can do on pc version. google ffxidats

  • does anyone notice how Maat's dancing to the rhythm?

  • @clutsymoggly lol cheap I wish i can do that on PS3.

  • What sword is that? It looks frickin sweet!

  • wonderful! you rock^^

  • lolmoghedianrdmmelee

    :D

  • cool

  • Not really. Each size reduces damage by a %, not a specific amount. In other words, it's the same principle behind Damage Taken -X% gear - the overall damage you take is going to be reduced by a % regardless of whether the damage is broken up into many small hits, or slower hard hits.

Size 2 have almost the same proc rate as Size 3 but with less damage reduction, so the only reason to ever use one is that you don't have access to Size 3's in the first place.
