My 1999 Ford Ranger had a dead battery and would not start. It has an old 12V battery that should be replaced. In the meantime, to get the truck running again, I connected a solar panel to bring the truck back to life.

  • you don't need to fully charge the battery to turn the starter motor. you should have tried after 5 minutes of sunlight

  • @SurvivalGrounds I understand what you are saying. I could have let the alternator charge the battery. However, the day I recorded this video I simply drove around the block and came right back, which is not enough drive time to let the alternator charge the battery. I wanted the battery fully charged so the truck would start the next time I needed to drive it.

    Peace.

  • You know that you probably could attach the panel in the bed of the truck, and permanently wire it in. Never a dead battery again! Hot in FL. Sam

  • I might just do that! I have been thinking the same thing. I used to keep a small 4W panel in the back window to keep the battery trickle-charged. My truck must have an electrical problem because I have had troubles keeping the battery charged. I'm not sure if this is related, but sometimes the truck thinks the door is "ajar" even when both doors are closed. If I use your idea, I'll make a video. Thanks.

  • @field16 u could short the door senser and it will never say that again

  • @wifebeater756 Interesting idea... thank you!

It's ironic to see such a helpful comment coming from a wicked-sounding username. Don't beat your wife!

  • @pozzerbob thats pro. I like that idea ;)

  • @mrbuki77 I mounted a PV panel on top of a camper shell. It charges the deep cycle mounted in the bed.

  • I turned the toolbox in my truck into a mobile power suppy, with a 80w panel on the lid, 2 gel 12v batteries in series,210 amp hrs each , hooked up to a 5000w inverter.

  • This Mitsubishi panel has an open circuit voltage of 22V and is rated at 120W. Thanks for watching.
