The original text set to Schubert's music was not in fact the Latin Ave Maria that we commonly associate today. Sir Walter Scott's original text happened to have the words Ave Maria in the opening lines as well as the refrain and at some point the Latin prayer was inserted and performed. Regardless, the association today to the Virgin Mary is established and will remain.

By the first woman's pride and arrogance before God sin came into the world. By Mary's submission and acceptance of His will the Word became flesh.

For Catholics, there is no more to be said on revelation, that has been revealed to us through Our Lord and provided to us in the Holy Bible. But there remains a place for private revelation. Apparitions of Mary are many, but a rare few are actually approved for private belief. Fatima and Lourdes are two events where our Mother revealed herself in order to bring us closer to our Lord.

And the angel being come in, said unto her: Hail, full of grace, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women
