Lise Lindstrom made her Metropolitan Opera debut in the role of Turandot October 28, 2009. This small video contains "In Questa Reggia". The sole purpose of offering the video is to share her brilliant talents with her fans and her soon-to-be fans. Forgive the less-than-ideal sound quality, my over use of the zoom, and the UN-steady cam. I figure it all adds to the sense of being there live and it's better than not savoring her performance at all. Note: This is the same content as my first YouTube selection only now with a HiDef version. Watch for her first Tosca during summer 2010 at Glimmerglass!

  • Lise is very excited to be working with such a fine conductor and company.

  • operabluff, you are obviously a friend or relative of lise?

i was there last week. she was very good, better than the rest of the cast. the tenor was someone named porretta, with a very strange and constricted sound production. in the "gli enigmi sono tre" duet, you could hear her high C but not him. congrats to lise!

  • I am a good fan of hers. First heard her sing Senta in Salt Lake City and was captured by the truth of her acting (not at all the styIized theatrics of Turandot's ice princess) and the power and beauty of her voice. I was thrilled when she earned the Met role.

  • better Guleghina and still better Ana Shafajinsnkaia who should sing at the met NOW:::::

  • Have you seen/hear Ms. Lindstrom live? Using YouTube as the sole means to judge her pales to the real event. My inexpensive Canon digital camera (not even a movie camera) has a pin-hole sized monophonic microphone.

  • @sirmercutio99 I'm seeing her next week sing Salome at San Diego Opera! Can't wait!

  • Has she sung Salome? She sounds like that would be perfect for her and despite what the other 2 people say she's got an impressive voice, maybe the next Nilsson.

  • Freaking amazing! Lise is in Milwaukee doing the same role! Sure with I could hear her do this live as well as her Senta! A.Maz.Ing!

  • Contrast her visually and vocally with, say, Nilsson, who might go off pitch briefly here or there just before or after a consonant, but once on a note, could spin it in perfect tune at any volumn level - and her body was so at ease!) With this singer, you see the work in the body, that the jaw is often hyper extended in middle register, you hear she can't choose the volume on high notes... This woman has a really beautiful instrument and makes interesting acting choices, so it's a shame.

  • HI Spintotenor! Brief space for dialog may make this seem abrupt (sorry) Listen to any single sustained note in the middle register, for ex. Principessa Lo "Ling* The voice moves above and below the pitch in a far wider span than a vibrato, and much slower than vibrato. The overtones are often fighting with each other. Only at forte does she have a pitch center. Body is working too hard. (to be continued)

  • @johndlabella can you explain what's wrong with the middle? Just curious...

  • The middle is not in good shape; a sign that things are not well.

  • @StarRaft Frank Porretta is usually very good. maybe he had an off night.

  • @OperaBluff I have heard her live in this role. Her voice drops out in the middle register. This happened pretty consistently during the performance I heard of her in this role in San Diego.

  • @Peggyrita1 I was also in that preformance in the San Diego Opera's Turandot, and I must say it was amazing to work with her! It was my first opera, and I loved it!
