No heavy metal here. This is the Who doing Link Wray, plain and simple. Me thinks Pete Townshend had been listening to link's "deuces wild" before they put this together.
@hermygagala I agree, alice cooper was a bit later too and all you hear is Black Sabbath and Judas Priest. I love both those bands but the Who, Jimmy Hendrix, Steppenwolf, and even the Beatles contributed so much to the metal genre of today. Of course some of J.S. Bach had what we consider metal elements so it's all influential in a way.
Seriously I can't believe this was released in 1965. The Who barely get any credit for creating heavy metal. I would say this is the earliest really heavy intrumental. Also Nazareth rarely receive credit for creating metal. Although they were later than The Who they still contributed a lot. The songs Witchdoctor woman (71), Hard Living (72), Sold My Soul (73), Shapes Of Things (74), Miss Missery (74), Changin Times (74), Beggars Day (75). Anyway The Who is one of my favorite bands of all time.

@hermygagala The Who is without a doubt one of the most influential bands of heavy metal. How can anyone not love The Who?
