@bakalagz then deducted manchester won the trophy in 1968 ahh, the champions has had several names since European Cup, European Champions Cup and UEFA Champions League so that they all have value, not vanga me with that are not worth it because are equal.

@mark57153 I don't think they ever had the chance to be truly great, such is the tragedy of the air disaster. Had they lived there is no doubt they would have won more.

@mark57153 The average age of their team was 23...Duncan Edwards was 20 by then, and when he was 21 (the year he died) he was ranked as 2th best player in Europe. So yes it was a very good team, but you are right they were never the best.

So Real won this semi, Villa won the cup final...yet this man utd team was the best ever? Too much hype and not enough objectivity. This was a very good man utd team BUT they were not a great team. (Today's Barcelona is a great team, for example.) You have to win prizes. I would compare this 1957 man utd team to the ipswich town of the late 1970's, early 1980's. Young, exciting, breath-taking on their day, but not truly great.

before that year, was a "friendly training cup", so all teams that won before 1992 dont have any value (well, the same if i win a match with my friends)

Im not saying that United would have dominated Madrid if they didnt die. But there would be some memorable battles between them! Charlton said that edwards was the only person who ever made him feel inferior.
