Propane and Giant Sparks

Flames are made of plasma, which is electrically conductive. So a long torch flame, waved around near a Tesla coil, should work like a metal rod, to attract the sparks, right?

Stepping even farther into "don't try this at home" territory, Dr. Zeus and his conductive metal suit tempt fate and wow the audience with a crowd-pleasing combination of giant sparks and giant flames.

Folks, if you ever plan to have the Giant Singing Tesla Coils perform at your event, you might forget to mention that when securing insurance for said event.

The electric igniter circuit in a motorhome propane gas hot water heater relies on flame conducting electricity. The completed circuit is what tells the electronics that the gas is lit and continues to burn. The burning flame in the heater pipe does it as part of the circuit (like a wire would) .. Flame goes out and the circuit is open, and sparking begins again to light it.
