Lyrics:

I can't help waiting deliberating,
depths of age pale away
and I am trying to rediscover
the wide-eyed beauty of the first glance

and you can take what's mine,
add to the weight of time
with cold eyes and a furrowed brow
and you can take what's mine,
turn back the hands of time
but for young, time is the sun

from where does fear spawn,
from the older ingrained scorn
does it mean that my mind won't cry
and I can't believe that you're happy to bleed
from your cold eyes

each year I peel back my skin
and fleshy pink appears
yet a harder layer grows,
protect uncertainty
young grow fear to love,
resist my resistance
reluctance to return a smile

and you can take what's mine,
add to the weight of time
with cold eyes and a furrowed brow
and you can take what's mine,
turn back the hands of time
but for young, time is the sun

from where does fear spawn
from the older ingrained scorn
does it mean that my mind won't cry
and I can't believe that you're happy
to bleed from your cold eyes (X3)

  • ooo, this sounds like an older version than the polyserena one. Which CD (if any) is it from?

  • This was from the original EP 'You Can Take Whats Mine". I wasn't that keen on the Polyserena version & was generally disappointed by the album as a whole. Its production values were not as good as the previous eps + they messed up this song. There is an excellent live version on the EP Bastard Son/Holiday that is slightly better than this one IMO.

  • @mddawson1 what are you talking about? the polyserena version is brilliant! that outro just completes the album. its truely inspired production.

it was recorded at an SAE. you cant get much better production in australia.

i will admit though that the katie's brother doesnt quite compare though. his songs just dont break through the mist for me. and you cannot deny the glaring similarities between Run and Radiohead's creep and a little bit of no suprises.

  • @lachlunn The album version just sounded flat and lifeless compared to the EP IMO.

  • George is one of the best Australian bands, and this is a great music video. Simply brilliant!

  • Great track, love George + Katie, but I already have all their CD's & DVD's and have seen them many times live before they split. Does anyone have any live footage of George or Katie or Elixir ??? That would be awesome.

  • i remember listening in the valley...damn, that was a long time ago...still like it all.

  • Geoff hooton is my music teacher, he used to be in george. ;L

  • I saw Katie perform at the valley fiesta in 08 and her voice is so unbelievably beautiful I actually cried! Love her and her band! She signed a copy of her album for me and is such a beautiful person too! xx

  • THANK YOU for posting this version of Spawn!! I also think this version is better than the Polyserena one. Fell in love with it the moment I heard it on JJJ so was a little unimpressed with the 'cleaned up' version on the album. Have to try and find that old EP now!

  • Saw these guys in a club in Brizzy just before the album made it big. Me and my wife to be were amazed that we had just walked in on this fantastic band. We saw them a bit later as backup to the Whitlams. I still love Georges beutifull music.

  • Who's the kid at 0:43

I bet he's a mad fella these days, he looked pretty hot back then.
