  • At 21 minutes David says;

    "If you want to break every single Rails application out there because you have a great idea for Rails 3 its absolutely on the table".

    For me the what spoils Rails is the way perfectly good code breaks when I upgrade plugins/gems/Rails.

    Ironically it leads to awful productivity, for me anyway.

  • Well, I agree, it's annoying looking at dated code and they still sell Rails 2 books on amazon and your local bookstore.

    However, the more I learn, the more I learn to adapt. I started learning Rails in March after writing a spaghetti code web app in PHP with MySQL (it worked great!). Being a self starter and a n00b to dynamic web application development, I knew I needed to build on a framework that offered security. After much frustration with what was available, I hit the Rails runnin' !

  • I appreciated his comment at the end on backwards compatibility, re: Java.

  • hey. is that ben affleck speaking? ;D

  • I like O'reilly Media, and books, really great stuff

  • I love the way dhh says these half-truths about rails->merb cop... ehm merge :)

  • Ok I wasn't sure. Thanks for the clarification.

  • hehe... NO!, they're using a lot of technologies (rails included), but no PHP.
