the exact letter of the law states that the GK must remain on the goal line facing the field of play until the ball is kicked, but may move laterally as much as she wishes. Different referees have different interpretations. Some are very exacting. Other recognize the huge advantage the kicker has over the shooter, and allow some forward movement before the kick. This particular referee was very generous to the GKs.

The referee should had warned US GoalKeeper from the first penalty kicked by chinese women for moving foward off the goal post line before the ball was kicked even though she missed to caught the ball. The two Flank or Lineswomen(Referee assistants), the Chinese coach and chinese players did not even comment on that too. You could saw that she moved foward accross the line from the begining to the last penalty kicks.

She was like 4 feet off the line when she saved it, she's lucky the ref didn't enforce that rule at all

It is technically against the rules for her to come forward off her line before the ball is kicked but goalies usually get away with it. She was pretty far out though the ref could have made them retake the pk

I don't know too much about soccer but is she allowed to run that far out to block the shots? Most of the penalty shootouts I've seen the goalkeeper is in the middle and they either go right and left. Never seen goalkeepers run that far out to block a shot, not to mention she starts to move way before the ball is even kicked.
