A group of 19 incoming Northwestern freshmen are getting an early taste of college life through the new BioEXCEL program sponsored by Northwestern University Ventures in Biology Education (NUVibe).

The rigorous five-week program is open to all incoming freshmen, but appeals specifically to members of the Class of 2015 who are studying biological sciences or are planning to attend medical school. The four courses in the program serve as a refresher in biology, chemistry and calculus, while also developing students’ leadership skills and preparing them for the academic and social challenges of college life, said BioEXCEL Director Tim Morse.
