Season 1, episode 7

Taylor fidgeted as she stood there, passing her drink from hand to hand to keep it from becoming too hot on her skin. It was just her and the boy; the back of the café was fairly quiet. He made no move to acknowledge her as he typed away, focusing on whatever was on his screen as he bit his lip. He was beautiful. There weren't many more ways to describe him other than he might've been the most beautiful boy Taylor had ever seen.

He had perfect skin, and even dressed lazily as he was, he still looked perfectly put together. He wasn't even looking at her anymore, but Taylor could feel her face flushing up. She pulled the sleeves of her sweatshirt over her hands, gave him one more glance, and walked away.

It wasn't really normal for her to be acting like this, boys never really got to her in a way that made her feel flustered. Chord had been the first boy to really make her melt, and that was why she'd fallen head over heels with him. And now, in Janie's, she'd had a very, very brief encounter with a boy that made her heart feel like it was going to jump out of her chest.

Of course, he was probably way out of her league. Taylor sighed as she made her way back to her dad and Janie, who was holding out a chocolate chip muffin that Patrick was refusing. "Muffin?" Janie offered, smiling from ear to ear. Did she ever stop smiling? Taylor wondered as she took the muffin and said a polite thank you.

When Patrick was finally able to coax a few more dollars into Janie's hands to pay for the muffin, they said goodbye and walked out into the chilly autumn air. "That was fun, wasn't it? Even if it was just breakfast?" Patrick was saying, but Taylor's mind was focused on the beautiful boy back at the café.

"What?" She said, turning her head to look at her dad. "Oh, oh yeah. It was. I like her, we should go back sometime," she faltered, trying to make normal conversation.

Patrick looked at his daughter strangely. "Are you okay?"

"Of course," Taylor said with a smile. "Do you want some of this?" She placed her pumpkin latte in her father's hands. "I need to eat this muffin."

Last night had been a late night for Joe Jonas, to say the least. He'd been out until almost 3am with his friends, driving up and down the quiet streets early Sunday morning. There'd been beer, of course, but for once Joe hadn't so much as touched them. He had a massive paper he had to write for English the next day and he knew that even just one beer wouldn't help him any.

It was true; he hadn't been able to pull himself out of bed until 2pm, which gave him less than 8 hours to write a paper on a book he couldn't even remember reading. 'The Scarlet Letter'? What in the world was that?

Grabbing his copy of the book and throwing it into his backpack with his MacBook, he'd headed out the door and straight to Janie's. He liked the small café, it was warm and quiet and it was one of the only places he felt like he could focus. Plus, Janie made the most amazing muffins.

Settling in with a mocha latte, Joe was typing furiously within thirty minutes. He'd just perfected his first paragraph when a blonde girl walked into his corner of the café. Normally he would've paused to really look at her, maybe even say hi, but this paper was going to be the death of him if he even stopped to take a little break. Joe glanced at her briefly, registering her blonde curls before going back to his paper.

He noticed that she stood there for a few minutes, looking out the window and sipping her drink that gave off a sweet pumpkin aroma, before walking away. Weird. Joe allowed himself to look up at her back as she went back to the front of the café before looking back at 'The Scarlet Letter' with a sigh.


Do you guys remember how in episode 1, it starts with "It was another day of rain"? And Taylor's in Seattle already? I kind of did a whole flashback on her leaving LA and arriving in Seattle. I'm going to go back to that rainy day in a few episodes, just a heads up... Like going back to the present. I hope it doesn't confuse you all too much.
