This is our new mayan cichlid tank. We caught them on pieces of hot dog. This is a 65 gallon tank and they are doing great we just put them in today and there are 5 cichlids in this tank.

  • How big do those get... I bought what I was told was a "red terror" but after about a year I learned it is not a "red terror" the guy at the shop said "oh yea when it gets like 6 inches long it's true beauty will come out..." it is 8 inches long and looks the same as when I bought it. I have grown to like it; I have it housed with a huge oscar, a huge jack dempsey, a blood parrot cichlid, and a few other cichlids.

I just hope it doesn't eventually get bigger than the oscar... cuz its mean!

  • @CornMakesWhiskey if ur lucky and u have him for a real long time he could get a foot cuz i have seen them that long before

  • Those are some beauties you have (had?) there :)

I used to have one that was caught in the wild, 8 years ago. It was an amazing fish, but extremely aggressive (more than was usual). When I'm ready to keep fishes again, this breed of fish will be my first choice. Damn, I loved that fish.

  • @ThePsychoRin yep they are all gone now, they have to have grown though i have ALOT of these same kind of cichlids that are small that just had been let go from their parents, not even an inch long

  • what do you feed them

  • @rocketboy25733 when i still had them i used to feed them little pieces of worms, or minnows

  • @fruitbooting132 The more they see you and you feed them, the sooner they will realize that you are their only source of food, this will take place in about a week's time, then you can stick your finger tip in the water just before dinner time, and they will all come to bite on your finger, but it happens if they see you several times a day and you feed them, don't feed them all the food all at once, watch and see, and whey are no longer desperate for food, stop so you don't pollute the water.

  • cool i have 2 of those

  • @fruitbooting132 Yeah, I think after a week the most or maybe a few days they start to get used to you watching them. Mine mostly eat at night when the lights are off. In the morning theres no more food left. :) Good luck!

  • nice tank i have about 6 of those in my 30gal( i know a bit small but there happy ) mine where wild and i caught them so i noticed that when i turn the light on they tend to go lower i assume so there not as visable from the top, i was wondering if they will every break thehabit of being in the wild you have any idea? and im currently feeding them freeze dried tubifex worms and other various cichlid peltet
