Guys...they said this color variety is found in the Kona region only. Of course there are all types of Io island wide.

@squidman22 . Yes, these "golden" i'o seem to be on west side of Big Island in Kona-area. Specifically, the Hienaloli drainage area directly above Kona. We have seen a number of these color variants, as you say, in the area just above Kona. There is indeed a wide range of "light phase" and "dark phase" i'o, ( in fact, we have one of each who are resident at the Sanctuary) but the very striking "golden" birds seem to be found in Kona area. I have photos of a few different, wild "golden" birds.

Yes.. there are i'o all over the Big Island. We are in Kona but have an i'o here that came from Honoka'a. Not sure what the newscaster/we said that was "wrong". Thanks for clearing up any confusion...as I said, there are indeed i'o in all districts on Big Island.
