A straight up comparison of my favorite Elixirs against the D'Addario Strings that were recommended to me for a warmer tone.
What do YOU think? Which is more "woody" or "mellow" or "warmer?"

  • lol I love 0:50 - 1:00 XD

  • @95ApEx95 The pause from :50 to 1:00 was to allow the harmonics to resonate on their own without manipulation, to speak to the sustain potential. I realize of course I look a bit like a dufus just sitting there, (lol) but there WAS a method behind the madness.

  • question:are the Elixirs phosphor bronze or just normals?

I ask because you say that the D'addarios ARE phosphour bronze- now this would have a marked difference in tone if the Elixirs aren't- a difference that is in no way related to the coverings.

Elixir do make a phosphour bronze nanoweb string- just don't know if that is what you're using

    peace

  • @SuperBeanson Yep "PB's" as I recall.........it' s been a while since I did this video, and the guitar is no longer in my possession. I go thru guitars like firewood round here.

  • Every once in a while I get the itch to try a new string and I always end up going back to my Ernie Ball. No gimmicks, fancy packaging or marketing wordplay they are simply sell on their own merits because they're great.

  • Am I the only person who prefers the Elixir Polyweb?

  • I preferred the sound of the D'Addario's over the Elixers. I found the string squeal on both strings in this shoot-out to be very distracting.

I think a more accurate comparison would have been to compare the D'Addario XLR Phosphor bronze stings because, like the Elixer's, they are coated strings. I have been using D'Addario strings for years and have othing but good things to say about them. I just put a set of ELixer Nanoweb 80/20's on my Tyalor and so far I am not impressed with them.

  • I just bought elix's nanoweb, still prefer regular strings

  • I thought the warmer tone came from the Elixirs, but I guess that's all relative. I've also gotten good tone on my acoustics with Dean Markeley Phosphor Bronze strings and Martin SP strings.

  • I think Elixir is more richer and Daddario is more warmer.... I havent tried the elixir.. I put my d'addario string and i love the sound... I order the planet waves O-Port to see if my Fender acoustic would sound like a taylor hehehe

  • Fair enough, but how do the compare 4 or 5 days later?

  • Just for other peoples info - My guitar is a DYM95c by Alvarez (k yairi here in NZ)

have used DAD Phos Bronze EXP strings - liked them until I used Elixir Nanoweb Phos bronze - The Polyweb elixir strings are no good but the Nanoweb are AWESOME

Made my guitar sound so much better than the Daddario strings

  • @nutmegger1957 Oh, it's nothing like that, haha. I know it was to let it resonate, I just for some reason couldn't hold back the chuckle. Perhaps the pause was just a little longer than it needed to be. Anyway, pretty good video, thank you for taking the time to compare these for us. :) I think I'll pick up some Elixirs a little later.
