"Timothy Leary's Dead" (1996) is an unusual documentary about the counterculture guru, who became well-known for his phrase: "Turn on, tune in, drop out." Director Paul Davids charts the life of the rebel Harvard professor who transformed his own and the others' life using LSD trips as spiritual tools.

After leaving the halls of academia, Leary founded a community of like-minded individuals - League for Spiritual Discovery, which aimed for spreading of new psychedelic consciousness. He claimed that it was his influence that led the Beatles to experiment with drugs and come up with the acid inspired "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band."

Davids uses TV and newsreel footage to capture this prankster's experiences as a prisoner, an underground fugitive, a pop icon, and in late period a devotee of the Internet.
