Christopher A. Preble is the director of foreign policy studies at the Cato Institute. He is the author of three books including The Power Problem: How American Military Dominance Makes Us Less Safe, Less Prosperous and Less Free (Cornell University Press, 2009), which documents the enormous costs of America's military power, and proposes a new grand strategy to advance U.S. security.

  • Anyone who still thinks Obama wants to end any of the wars is a damm fool. He is just as a murderous dirtbag as the neocons are. Dont believe the bullshit his foreign policy is no different. Afghanistan isnt called the Graveyard of Empires for nothing. People want true change in our foreign policy, support Ron Paul.

  • anybody who thinks that it's a strange coincidence that this book is out just in time for the elections is a fool.

  • Close all foreign bases, end the wars, and cut useless programs like the LCS and V22 programs. Also, although more expensive, build F22 fighter jets instead of F35 jets. Build weapons more efficiently and sell surplus military products overseas. Reduce intelligence spending, and get rid of the fucking nukes. Do this right, and who knows, we could possibly make money rather than lose it on our military by selling our old products to other nations.

  • You should NEVER go into a WAR without an achieveable goal. The Political leadership failed. (OMG Did I just "Blame Bush"?) The Military should never be political and the Civilian leadership sets the goals, liases with military on what is needed to achieve these goals, then let the military off the leash. We have a VERY competant military, the Best in the world. What we are missing is LEADERSHIP in the White House.

  • Once again we have a president that has never served and most likely has a level of disdain for the military in general. Why should any of this surprise anyone?

  • Bring 'em home.

  • @Voy2378 It's not a coincidence. Bob Woodward writes books about public policy for a living; there is almost always a Bob Woodward book out at any time that's inconvenient for one party or another.

  • It is mind boggling to think that the American people have ignored all of the lack of information and lack of answers that has opened the door for the United States to take on unlimited war. No one seems to shout that they demand and have a right to know all details about 9-11 attacks in the United States. Why were we attacked? I mean its not because we are free or rich that is just insane.

  • When is America going to realise that it's foreign policy is growing these terrorist organisations more and more the longer they continue these wars?
