Kasin Hunter builds the remainder of the solar water tank support and explores the insides of a gas water heater to decipher which nipple is to the HOT tube and which is to the COLD tube so the tank will be laid correctly on the wooden supports.

  • Another good idea. I use wax on metal zippers. Never thought of using it on wood screws. They're both metal. Don't know why I didn't make that jump. Thanks. :) I can add a traveling soap dish to my tool box and keep a chunk of wax in there.

  • Kasin: you are a tallented woman in the kitchen and out in the back yard.

Could I suggest that you use some parffin or candle was on the screw threads when you drill them into your wood. That will make the screw go in much easier, especially when you are going into hard wood.

I can't wait to see the finished product.

Thanks for taking up through this project step by step.

  • Great idea, robdham99. Thanks.

I know I can use my drill for screws, but I guess I'm old fashioned using my Screwball. I even used it to put up cupboards in the workshop. I know. I know. :) :) I either get the drill going too fast or the darned thing slips off the screw head and damages the material. I should practice more with that. It would make my life easier in the long run.

  • When drilling for screws in wood you can drill a slightly larger hole in the first board and the correct size in the board receiving the threads and this will make it easier to do by hand. Also you can place a phillips bit in your drill and use it.
