What do you love to do?
Wishing everybody a good Memorial Day weekend. I don't necessarily want to say "Happy" because I believe we should be spending the time thinking about the soldiers who gave their lives and fought for this country so that we could enjoy the freedoms that we do enjoy today. How many of us for example get to enjoy the freedoms of owning our own businesses. Let's not take that for granted. Everyone in this country has the distinct opportunity to figure out what they love to do and then find a way to make money doing it. That's what I've done and now I continue to evolve, because as I've done the things I've loved to do and found ways to make money doing them, I have discovered new things that I enjoy even more and I am now looking into ways to make money doing those things.
So what about you? Are you going to a job you're not completely excited about going to? Did you LOSE your job due to cutbacks in this economy? I spoke to one girl on facebook a while back who was telling me that she travels a great distance to go to work and she can't stand it because it was long hours and she didn't get time with her kids as much as she would want. She also doesn't get enough time to herself. I offered that she should start doing things along the lines of changing the situation. You can't change the conditions, but you can change yourself to meet the conditions. In other words start thinking in terms of another more local job. At least put a resume out there and look for something local. Nope! She's stuck and something more traumatic will likely need to happen before she is motivated to change herself. I know it's hard to find jobs, but if you aren't looking now while you still have a job, then you will likely be forced to look if you lose that job.
But I have an even better solution.
Go into business for yourself! Most people do it backwards. They get a job to pay the bills and then they call doing what they love their hobbies. Then they never get enough time for their hobbies because they're too busy doing what they don't love to pay the bills. That's backwards. Turn your hobbies into income producing activities and then guess what happens? You get to get up everyday filled wish excitement and passion as I do because you are getting paid to do what you love to do.
It is so easy to build a web presence for almost no money these days and start generating revenue.
o Domain name: $10 on Godaddy.com
o Hosting plan: $10/month (Cut back on Starbucks and Coffee bean if necessary to pay for this)
o Install a wordpress.org blog in your site: $0.00
o Build content by writing about what you love by way of letting people know what you can offer them for free and on a paid basis: What is the value of your time?
Anyone who tells you that you can do this with no effort is lying. It takes a lot of effort, but the beauty of this model is that since you are doing and talking about and living an breathing what you LOVE, it seems effortless. I can't wait to get up every day and check my e-mail because I may just get that one message that I get one of just about every day that comes from someone who has really been helped by something I did or said. That's my biggest payday.
What's your biggest Payday? What do you LOVE to do that you would like to find a way to make money doing?
Best answer (Judged by me and my wife) gets an hour for free with me to show you how to set up the web presence and even get your QuickBooks set up -- however you want to use the hour is up to you!
Submit your answers by replying on the blog or post a video response on YouTube. Anyone who responds and includes their twitter handle will get a mention by me on Twitter.
As the quote from Van Wilder goes...I'm still waiting for that ah-ha moment to come!...think waiting a few years is too long? There are things I'd love to do, but to get them up and going costs money, which I have none ATM!

@xMrH2OBoyx This simple answer to this is that you find ways to make money that don't cost. Then build from there. The internet makes that much easier to do than it ever used to be as long as you have something of value you can offer - either a product or your knowledge.

Then it sounds like graphic design may be your thing! The whole trick is to find what you LOVE to get up and do every day and then figure out a way to make money doing it. Most people do it backwards or just "get a job". It seems practical, but how "practical" is it really to miss out on spending your whole life every day doing what you LOVE to do?

@nerdcenterprises, how do you write code? That stuff seems really hard.

@randy7027 It's not hard, but you do have to concentrate and study to learn it and the best way is to get some guidance (ie go to school to learn it)

I really like to play video games but how could I make money doing that..

@randy7027 You can become a game tester or learn how to write code so you can create video games. There is huge potential in that area.
