I first heard this song on my way to a grad class. Martin was being interview on WYCE in Grand Rapids and he sang this song in the studio. After my class, I drove over to Calvin College where he was performing. I introduced myself after his sound check and asked to buy one of his CDs. He told me they were $25. All I had in my pocket was a 20. He called his manager over and told her to sell me both (In the Journey and Black Sheep) for $20. That was in '97. He is without question one of my greatest influences and I gratefully acknowledge his generosity by sharing his music, attending numerous concerts and turning countless people on to the Great Martin Sexton!

  • Seen you at the Booknook, I am a big fan, from the East side!

  • This is so good!!!!! I can't believe it took me two years to find such a great cover to my favorite song. Wow. Very well done, sir.

  • @srv8813 Yanks are wankers ! Respectfully

  • I have been looking everywhere for good chords/tab for this song. Suggestions?

  • That is the closest anyone can sing this song like Martin!! keep up the good work!!

  • Nice cover! I drove Martin to WYCE that day, and Im glad it was worth it to someone out there.

  • OH, never mind. You did that in the intro. Sorry!

  • Hey Man,

Good job! I can play it good, but as for the vocals?? Forget about it! Suggestion if I may? When you are coming back to the G, and you use the ascending notes in the bass? OK, also try continuing a bass line by backing off the G note down to the F# on the 6th string as you transition to the D chord. Also, when you go from D to A chord, play a high riff off the A chord, C# note up to D note on 2nd string, then high E on sixth, right back to D chord with the D note already in place.

  • Amen brother.
