Timothy Bedford, 18, of Bloomington was sentenced to 33 months in prison Monday, March 2, in Dakota County District Court.
Bedford will serve a year in jail for kidnapping and robbing a 79-year-old man in the Burnsville Center parking lot a month ago. Bedford was placed on 10 years probation and ordered to register as a predatory offender. He was given credit for time served in jail already and his sentence was stayed for 21 months. Thirteen Burnsville residents weighed in on proposed 2009 street reconstruction and rehabilitation projects at two public hearings during the Burnsville City Council meeting last night.
The council approved resolutions to move forward with plans, specs and advertising bids for all projects, but included the stipulation of having another neighborhood meeting for reconstruction projects questioned by citizens last night.
Residents were mainly concerned with the special assessment costs associated with proposed street projects citing the tough economy today as a bad time to do what some viewed as unnecessary work.
Proposed reconstruction and rehabilitation street work includes the Pioneer, 12th Avenue, Fairview, Crestridge, Vista View, Echo Park, Evergreen, Chicago and Portland areas. Funding for the work comes out of the city's infrastructure trust fund, water and sewer funds and special assessments for those who live in the maintenance area. About $7 million is being set aside for the street reconstruction and $1.1 million for rehabilitation projects.

Congrats to Anna Nadon and Joshua Haider who were selected as Burnsville High School honorees for the 2009 Prudential Spirit of Community Award.
Nadon raised funds and assembled 400 lizard bead kits to distribute last summer to children in Tanzania. Haider designed and created an organizing system for the physical education department at a parochial school as the focus of his Eagle Scout project.
The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards program identifies deserving young volunteers who serve as role models for other young adults.
