AND HELP MAKE #VOTELOLA4VJ A TRENDING TOPIC ON TWITTER!!
The deadline to submit the videos for MuchMusic VJ 2.0 was September 28th, 2009. I am submitted my video at 9 AM the day of. It's not because I procrastinate; quite the contrary, I get things done. I did not find out about the search until a few days ago and decided that I too, wanted to be a party it until last night [Sept 27th] at about 7pm. My mom being my # 1 incentive.
I don't have a lot of time to get as many votes as everyone else, but hey a friend of mine said "You miss 100% of the shots you don't take", so I thought why not!
SHOT AND EDITED BY CHRIS STRIKES!

The very first thing I did in the music industry was putting together a small event in Waterloo to help showcase Canadian talent. From there I built relationships with several emcees, labels, dancers, and many other people in the game. It wasnt until I started writing for HipHopCanada.com that I began to get serious about working in the industry. Shortly after, I became the writing director for the site and I managed a team of about 16 writers, whom I guided, assigned work to, edited work from and more. I maintained relationships with all labels and management in Canada and abroad, and continued to conduct interviews as Senior Writer also.
Throughout this time I also worked with Swagg News magazine from Toronto where I had a column titled Ask Lola. People would e-mail me and even write me in with questions about music as well as life. I also contributed as staff writer to Swagg News. Other publications I have written for include Rhyme and Reason Magazine in Australia, Moxie Street in LA, Smokingsection.com, Pound Magazine and others. Currently I have a column on CreamWorld Magazine titled On the Go with Lola and I also contribute as staff writer. Throughout the years I have landed interviews with artists such as 50 Cent & G.Unit, T.I., The Dream, Fabolous, Black Eyed Peas, Marc Ecko, Soulja Boy, DJ Drama, Chamillionaire, Massari, Belly, Kardinal Offishall and many others.
My experience in the industry is not only limited to journalism as I enjoy getting myself involved in a variety of different things. For the past 2.5 years I have worked as the online marketing director for Maxamus Entertainment aiding in the planning and marketing of events such as the 2008 MMVA afterparty hosted by Akon and Kardinal Offishall, Alicia Keys official concert afterparty, Caribana party hosted by Swizz Beats [07], Rick Ross, [08], Big Boi & Young Dro [09], the annual Men in Suits, and many others.
While in Universty at Wilfrid Laurier in Waterloo, I also landed my own radio show on LaurierRadio, which I maintained for 1 semester. While working there I played both the roles of DJ and on-air personality learning a few things about working with different equipment. While in University I also worked with a DVD from New York called Epydemik DVD as their Toronto representative filling them in on what was going on in Toronto as well as conducting interviews on camera with artists here.
I feel my experience has given me a great start in the world of journalism and entertainment and I believe working as a MuchMusic VJ will allow me to apply myself, and expand my horizons. I am eager to learn and to develop my skills not only as a host but also as a journalist.
