I've just purchased a tm2 from HP with the ATI/Intel graphics less than 2 weeks ago, and to be honest, I really enjoyed the improvements HP made over the tx2500. However, I noticed a slight jittering during inking while using the Intel chip. I tried many different ways to fix it (reinstalling the graphics drivers, reinstalling the Wacom drivers, using the back-up pen, doing a system recovery to factory settings... etc.), but to no avail. The fixes HP support offered me were useless, too.

HP tech support's final verdict is a hardware problem (which I also suspect is the case, as seen with these videos), and want me to send in my unit for servicing. I've had it for less than 2 weeks, so I got a replacement unit from HP.

These videos show the erratic movements of the cursor while using the stylus and inking in Onenote 2010.

Part 1 shows inking with the ATI chip.

Part 2 shows inking with the Intel chip.

Part 3 shows the "temporary fix" which I came across by accident while trying to fix my tm2.

Part 4 shows inking with the Intel chip after the "temporary fix," and that the "temporary fix" is not overly effectively. It also shows the zoomed in results of all three tests.

And no, my hand is not shaking and causing those ripples in the lines. The lines drawn using the ATI chip are perfectly smooth.

From what I've gathered, this issue is quite rare. Only one other user on the tabletpcreview.com forums reported having the same problem, and another user in the youtube community have posted a video of the same problem (see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TNa_45GDio8 ). So, don't be worried that every unit has this fault. Though if any other people notice that their tm2's have the same problem, be assured that you are not alone.

  • I have the exact brightness problem. It goes down by itself to minimum. Can you please tell me how you went about fixing it?

  • @TTRKW55468 Server = Service

  • Server = service (means I tried the guarantee way)

  • I'm having problems with the brightness of my touchsmart tm2 1090eg. It keeps lowering itself to minimum brightness no matter how often I increase it. This happens with linux and windows, where as with linux the brightness stays at 100%, and an icon for brightness decrease appears automatically without being able to change it. On windows it keeps getting lower.

do you know any fix or problem to keep the brightness at a certain level?

Hp Repair Server didn't fix it.

  • I would've said the jittering occurs because the intel chip is underpowered, but seeing as inking works fine (on the intel chip) for other people I don't know what to tell you.
