No matter how hard they try, cfls will never have the nice light quality that edison bulbs have so they will never convince me to buy CFLs. Sure, they save energy but their lighting quality sucks and the ones with the swirly appearence is absolutly horrible looking. Incandescents are much better
None of these bulbs are "safe". what if one breaks in your house? EPA sends out HASMAT! These bulbs are bad for our health in the long run, mercury vapors are nothing to take lightly.
My dad got some cheap "Sunbeam" CFL's from the dollar store, they suck (light is bluish white, very harsh). he also got some more expensive and MUCH better phillips and sylvania ones, but we have some of the dollar store ones still in the house (the few that didnt burn out in the first month). they have me worried though since i read that cheap CFL's can cause fires and leak hazardous amounts of mercury into your home, does anyone recognise the "Sunbeam" brand name? is it safe?
they cost 9 bucks, but save a lot of energy... 20W fluorescent lamp = 100W incandescent. The fluorescent lamp save 5 times more eletricy than incandescent!
Here in Brazil, a fluorescent lamp cost R$15,00, and incandescent only R$1,00. Besides that, i buy only fluorescent... it is better!! much better!
It's not an urban legend...mercury is no laughing matter..besides these bulbs emit RF and UV radiation...of course I assume your mindset will dismiss this hazard as well...suggest you install CFL's all through your home...
About time someone put a video up about the benefits rather than some BS urban legend about hazmat teams coming out if someone breaks one. These are simply miniature versions of the flourescent bulbs we have used for decades with the ballast transformer and starter built into the base. Those paranoid about the mercury ought to research how much mercury is in the white light mercury vapor lamp in the street lights and yard lights!
