Vodka Collins performing a track from their Polystar records album Chemical Reaction titled "I Can't Buy A Thrill" - The album was recorded in Tokyo in 1995 and released in 1996. This song is based on the band's lead singer & songwriter Alan Merrill and a disappointing experience he had after a night in an expensive Tokyo club. Turning a negative experience into a positive one he wrote this simple blues song about the rip-off club as soon as he got back to his hotel room. The band recorded the song the next day at Alfa Studio Tokyo.
The performance in the clip was filmed in 1996 at the music club Chicken George in Kobe Japan, where Vodka Collins often played in the 1990s. The clip starts with roadies scurrying around the stage fixing a technical problem while the set is in progress, while the band make room for the crew, who work at lightning speed.
Lead singer Alan Merrill, trying to warm up the shy and reserved Kobe audience, even goes down into the crowd and sits at a table while playing a lead guitar solo!
Vodka Collins members: Alan Merrill (lead vocals-lead guitar) Monsieur Hiroshi Kamayatsu (rhythm guitar) Mabo (bass) Hiroshi Oguchi (drums).
Thank you to Vodka Collins tour manager Jun Kaneko for letting me have this clip to put up on youtube.
It looks like Alan feels it's safer in the audience that on stage with the crew running around like jack rabbits. He goes in and sits with the crowd while playing a guitar solo. Wonderful madness.

The roadies were all over the stage behind him running. It must have been distracting.
