Nothing bothers me more than the angled back-cut. I'm sorry to bash on your "expertise" but that's the most dangerous "home-owner" way to cut down a tree. Flat cuts, even on the bottom of the notch, and using wedges is the best AND safest method to do it.

Why didn't he label the sky with an S?

The guy is trying to do a open face notch which he totally foobared most people here are talking traditional notch there is also a humboldt notch which is just the reverse of traditional saves you a bit of wood but more of a chance of kickback.
To make a openface notch top cut is 70 degrees and bottom cut is 20 degrees then backcut should be at same level as the hinge as opposed to 2" for a traditional backcut

Mr. Obvious strikes again. What a waste of server space.

There is a good chance that this man is laying dead under a tree he "cut down" somewhere. DO NOT make this big a felling notch probably 1/3 maximum depth Not 1/2. ..... Panel doesn't always mean your smart AND a snappy dresser
