The bazooka was an anti-armor and anti-bunker, man-portable rocket launcher that became famous during World War II. Technically named as the M9 Anti-tank Rocket Launcher, it was also called "stovepipe" and used to deliver high explosives into machine gun nests and hardened bunkers in all WWII theaters. It was one of the primary infantry anti-tank weapons used by the United States Armed Forces, and was based on the principle of the high explosive anti-tank (HEAT) shell. It impressed the German command as well, so much so they copied it except made it larger. It was nicknamed "bazooka" from a vague resemblance to the musical instrument of the same name invented and used by Bob Burns. The M1A1, M9, and M9A1 rocket launchers saw widespread use throughout WWII.

  • Bazookas was nothing compared to Panzershreck. These weapons could penetrate over 200 millimeters of armor, and there was no allied tank with over 200 millimeter armor.. So it was far mor superior than the original bazooka wich couldn't penetrate Tigers or Panthers frontal hull very well, acutally they must have damn lucky to knock out one of these tanks.

  • @RammerJammer1962 hey that was my first thought, too. this rough, murmering lingering sound at the end of the sentences sound excatly like the movie-Patton.

  • @Tyco200 No, Sherman tanks were much more ineffective compared to any German tanks late in the war.

  • @kraniumguy Also, keep in mind that the most numerous tank was never the Tiger, nor Panther. Also, Panthers had horrible 360 visibility. Even the typical Panzer IV Ausf.H or Sherman tank had better visibility. Panther also had worsened mechanical problems (Though, these were worked out easily by the time the Ausf. D came out, which no longer made the panther the most flammable tank besides the T-34....)

  • @ShowTyme1994 Rubbish. Typical Sherman armed witht he 76mm M1 gun could knock a panther within a distance of 800 to 1,200 depending on muniton types. With HVAP, that distance was further extended to 1,600 meters. The 88 on the T-34 was really no more than a complete ridden disaster. It increased the horrible trans. problems, gave the vehicle a huge seloete, and had half the Sherman's performance. Even a Sherman with the M3-75 was better!

  • @pROTPANDA Rubbish. Typical Sherman armed witht he 76mm M1 gun could knock a panther within a distance of 800 to 1,200 depending on muniton types. With HVAP, that distance was further extended to 1,600 meters.

  • one included in every russian happy meal

  • Is that George C. Scott narrating? Great voice. Was there a series?

  • @kraniumguy Nevertheless, they were far more superior than Allied anti-tank weapons.

  • @pROTPANDA panzerscrecks were a hell of a job to carry around compared to bazookas

  • @tiberiusgun Yeah they emerged from captured Bazookas, and Germans dramatically improved it.
