The culverts beneath US 2 that carry water runoff from the highway and surrounding areas are deteriorating. The corrugated metal pipes are corroded, allowing water to seep in under the roadway and causing the material beneath the highway and median to settle. To prevent further damage to the highway, we will replace five culverts with new pipes made of thick, heavy, rubberized plastic. Crews will fully close one direction of US 2 on six separate weekends while they open up the roadway, remove the corroded culverts and install new pipe. For more information, visit www.wsdot.wa.gov/Projects/US2/BickfordSafety.

So why does WSDOT continue to waste money, interrupt traffic and create messes that last for only 25 years, maximum, when there is a more feasible solution that does none of the above, will last ten times longer than the 25 years of a metal or concrete culvert and takes only hours to install, costs 1/10th and mno outside contracting necessary? Get with the technologies of the 21st century folks. Slip line everywhere it can be done, before the culvert and roadways fail.
