This movie is *the* classic hip-hop flick, full of great subway shots, breakdancing, freestyle MCing and rare footage of one of the godfathers of hip-hop, Grandmaster Flash, pulling off an awesome scratch-mix set on a pair of ancient turntables.

  • that blonde looks like Debra Harry (Blondie)..probably is her..she was into the hip hop scene and supported it in the early days of rap

  • erf na

it's not Debra, but another "undisputed queen of the downtown scene [...] She found the world famous FUN Gallery, the epicenter of the early 80's art explosion [...]The first in the East Village, showcased such artists as Keith Haring, Jean Michel Basquiat, Kenny Scharf, Fab 5 Freddy, Zephyr & Dondi."

See more details on wikipedia & imdb.

  • This was for sure the start of Hip Hop, a Solid 80% of rappers delight where rhymes borrowed from true artists like this. Sylvia Robinson found Big Bank Hank making Pizza's and rapping lyrics that he heard in a New York club. Hank was from Jersey. Great Movie.
