Sega announced Sonic and friends are getting back behind the wheel for some fast-paced kart racing craziness. Sega of Europe unveiled Sonic & SEGA All- Stars Racing today through their Sonic City Blognik in what can be considered a spiritual sequel to the two Sonic Drift titles on Game Gear. The title features characters from the Sonic franchise such as Sonic, Tails, Amy and Dr. Robotnik along with other Sega All-Stars like AiAi and Amigo as well as other unannounced competitors speeding for the finish line in a racer aiming to give Mario Kart a serious run for its money. Characters can utilize cars, planes and motorbikes around the tracks to offer different styles of racing. Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing is no ordinary racing game. Its huge variety of characters and vehicles, plus the ability to play both online and off set it apart from other games of this type said Gary Knight, European Marketing Director of SEGA Europe Ltd. The team have pushed the boundaries on what you would normally expect and created a different and unique party racing title whereby you really cant take anything for granted! Characters have access to special moves called All-Star moves to gain edges in races, such as Super Sonic, Banana Blitz and Tails Tornado. Power ups and weapons can also be collected around the tracks and used against the opposition to ensure they dont become a threat to that number one position. In addition to a single player mode, the title features a multiplayer mode as well, allowing up to four friends to race in split-screen action, or up to eight players to compete online.
In a frantic battle to the checkered flag, Sonic and friends will speed around tracks set from medieval castle ramparts to lush rainforests and bustling cities, all taken from the visually rich and varied universes of Sonic and SEGA. Fan favorites such as Dr. Eggman, Tails, AiAi, Amigo and many more will join Sonic in their custom built vehicles, revving their engines and jostling to stay ahead of the pack. Each character will race around the track in cars, planes, motorbikes, and in AiAis case - a banana mobile! Secret short cuts, swift handling and avoiding strategically placed obstacles are certainly the best way to get to the top of the podium. Power ups and weapons can also be collected around the tracks and used against the opposition! Richard Jacques, who composed music for Sonic R, Sonic 3D Blast, and Sonic and the Black Knight fame is supposedly working on the music in this title.(When the game's released, you know where to go for the music files.) The title is expected to come out on PS3, 360, Wii and DS in early 2010 and will likely be featured at Segas E3 booth in Los Angeles next week.

  • He used he feet in Sonic R,Now he uses Cars in this one. What more? Sonic in motorcycles?

  • @AndieTiggerPyro if sonic is running hes a cheater.

  • My only complaint is how Sonic uses a car in this game. I mean, he can run as fast as a car, so why does it matter if he's in one or not? LOL

Oh well, Sega can do what they want with their games. I'm just saying it's pointless to put Sonic in a car if he can run as fast as one.

  • I heard Tails Doll will be in this one too.

  • @sonicfan3346 Thanks for being reasonable. People are so picky about games these days.

  • @vgman94 I aggre. Mario has tons of games with gimmics, yet nobody raises an eyebrow. Yet when Sonic does it, people spaz out and say that it's "ruined the franchise!". Add to the fact they bitch about small things *COUGH CHARACTER DESIGN AND VOICE ACTION COUGH*.

  • @LOSERX1000 Well, when you introduce yourself to someone by calling them an idiot, you're not going to get peaches and cream back. If you said something less insulting or nice, I wouldn't be acting as I've been. I'm glad you think of them as alright, and I agree: I think SEGA was great for trying to do something new. Sadly, they're not doing that anymore. Yeah, franchises like Mario recycle the same shit for 25 years. I don't get that. No offense if you like it, but I personally don't.

  • @vgman94 Damn all I'm doing is offering my opinion. When did I ever say those games are bad? I thought they were pretty descent. I'm not anger Sonic is trying new genre. I'm glad Sega has the balls to experiment with Sonic. A lot of other companies just recycle the same garbage. Damn.

  • @LOSERX1000 ... Give me a good reason why adding speed in a hack/slack game would be bad? I mean, the gameplay of Black Knight could've been better, but it was functional. All that was needed was 3-D movement, more elaboration in enemies and moveset and it'd get to it's fullest potential.

  • @vgman94 Yeah to much speed in a hack and slash game is not good reduces good game quality.
