@TheLegoman28 , Yeah on some of them. The other type of lifeboats are davit launched and are lowered horizontally to the water with a wire attached either end.

@mat8660 the things are acually very safe. The ones i have been on have full chest harness and a lot of handles too hold on to the worst that really can happen is that you can be winded. They also have ample supplies and radio equipment for people to survive for days before rescue.

@MrDwendt When shit hits the fan, you hit the freefall button. If the situation calls to use one of those, I don't want to back on the ship any time soon :D
