  • Thanks for your suggestion, your care and concern. I am sure that there is no ground settlement after setting the equipment on a tripod.

  • Try and get a wooden or Fiberglass set of legs for your instrument. Aluminum expands too fast in the heat and you find yourself re-leveling the instrument constantly and induces a lot of error in your work. Aluminum tripods are cheaper but restrict them to level work. Wood is the way to go for theodolites or total stations. 30 years of experience talking here. Great career choice though. Remember the surveyor's motto. "We don't highball, we eyeball!"
