  • Thanks so much for experimenting those techniques. I have a question, won't the natural mud plasters attract insects, mice, rats or any other animals? And does it smell? I work with casein paint, and it smells! I am not sure it would be comfortable to live in a house that continually smells like cheese. Thanks for the info!

  • a suitable proportion of borax should keep all those critters away..

the wheat flour didn't smell. the ones with a milk base do. and true, even i would hate to live in a house which continually smells like cheese.. well unless it is actually made out of cheese! in that case i am ready to dismantle it slice by slice :)

  • So cool. Umm, I like that you are using natural stuff - is it all wasted otherwise? Or used in other ways? Like the additives for oil paints - mixed by and for centuries.

  • i did feel a bit guilty while trying out those additives since none of it was 'waste', in fact it could have been food! but the only consolation is that we are using stuff that is readily available, with low embodied energy (zilch as compared to industrial ones) and could help stabilise soils which would have otherwise been unsuitable for the purpose.
