Extreme wind gust of category 5 strength inside the eyewall of Hurricane Charley

Mike Theiss of Ultimate Chase captures some of the strongest winds ever caught on video inside a Hurricane with an estimate wind gust well over 155mph during Hurricane Charley on August 13th, 2004 in Charlotte Harbor, Florida. This rare Category 5 wind gust is embedded with in Charley's eyewall with sustained winds of 125mph. Mike believes a "mini-swirl" or "sub-vortices" was embedded in the eyewall and went right over his location during this sudden wind gusts.

Scientist believe Hurricane Andrew had numerous "mini-swirls" that devastated South Florida back in 1992.

While in Charley's eye Mike recorded a low barometric pressure of 942mb which was used in The National Hurricane Centers final report of Hurricane Charley.

Weather has been a fascination of mine since I was little. I grew up in Arizona so the only weather we saw was Monsoon season. I now live on the coast of South Carolina, I'm sure soon we will experience a hurricane. Believe it or not I was in Hurricane Nora when she made land fall right on the Arizona California Border in 1997

@UltimateChase I have my GI bill from the Air Force. I have been looking into going to school to be a meteorologist. Maybe work for the NHC in Miami. When I decided this I started to youtube and google different subjects and such and I stumbled onto you & Ultimate Chase. So I have been following you, I added you guys on Facebook during Irene. Fantastic video! Did you keep rolling tape during the passage of the eye and then the other half of the storm? From the radar, the eye looks very small, probably only a few mile across, giving you a few minutes respite before all hell broke loose again!
