  • A number of things. First he's playing on the idea that contemporary patients are seen as consumers, and often choose complimentary and alternative medicine's over mainstream medicine.

    He's also playing on the idea that when a patient refuses to stop indulging in risky health behaviours, there is the overwhelming desire to hit them. Also the idea of "beating it into someone".

    Finally, I think there is an homage to the hypocritical nature of a lot of healthcare professionals.
