http://live.pirillo.com - Aviator1616 wonders if there is a mechanism that will physically lock up a laptop... much like a bike chain would do. The good news is that there are such things, as well as their software theft deterrent counterparts.

  • i use a usb key connected to a 1 inch cable. once the usb is removed an alarm goes off and my private army shoots them unless they disable the alarm.

  • Whats the program called that takes a picture of the user in screen saver? Thanks

  • the locks on laptops are actually kensington the little holes, 99% of laptops have them, my super old ibm has on, my compaq has one, my brand new hp (today) has one, my toshiba has one, dads hp, dell both have them, his gfs dell has one. ive never seen a laptop without that little lock hole. now personally i have a kensington that i knew the code but somehow it got messed up so i just cut it with my leatherman, only took maybe 30 seconds (it was harder than it though)

  • BIOS LOCK 32 numbers on it

  • Also, the Lojack idea works well.

The Kensington locks are expensive too.

  • I use a physical lock which deters would-be bad guys. The Kensington locks are terrible, partly because they don't provide much attachment; partly because they are so hard to engage in the little slot that most people just stop using them. I use one that has a glue-on fastener and snaps into the larger, more durable receptacle. It is easy and works. There are a few versions called "Snap-Its".

  • WARNING: Lojack, allegedly, might compromise the security of your laptop. Some technicians speculate that it's possible for someone to take control of your laptop if you have LJ installed in your BIOS boot firmware. Relevant keywords for search engine action: 'Core Security Absolute Computrace security hole'. The information - however credible - is there for the taking.

  • I like your screens, they're real big.

  • ive spent £2000 on my mac my way to keep it safe is

    1. put it in its case

    2. atleast 1 padlock on the case

    3. password the mac

thats my 3 ways protecting my mac, i also got windows for keeping that safe

    1.same as above

    2.pass on it

    3. pass protect all files

  • I love my iBook G4, and I will run over anyone that takes it :)
