Hi AussieOldies and Colin! Ben Acton was my dad! I'm so proud of him. What a great tune this is. Got song of the year in 63 I think it was. He was a member of Freshwater Surf Club, not Manly. But he was a constable with Manly Police Station at the time. Was made to choose between the force and songwriting. He chose the force. He also wrote another song for the Deltones called 'Out the Back'. Thanks again! Josh Acton :-)

i'm on that reach. i can even a lot lower.
One of the very best Aussie surf songs from the early 60s .. by an iconic group, too. This one would've been played constantly, up at the "Surf City" nightclub, at Kings Cross. Oh to have been a part of that scene .. but .. born too late, by about 12 years. As history has it .. this song was composed by one Ben Acton, a member of Manly Surf-Lifesaving Club. Hence the 'genuine' type lyrics, describing beautifully the ACTUAL experience of surfing. Terrific posting, AussieOldies. Congrats !!
