This reminds me of my mom and her friend; how they used to go on about neighborhood gossip and such about people they knew :) It's like listening to them all over again!

@Jaksken Knickers are girls underwear, panties if you will, in Britain. Hence the saying 'don't get your knickers in a twist' (roughly translated to 'don't get yourself worked up').

@ZacharyDBrooks They're using a device in British comedy where one of the characters isn't shown, leaving the viewer to visualise it. I can imagine that the person lives in London (probably Notting Hill), works in PR/media, is somewhat self-obsessed, tries to be very right-on and impress her friends, has bought a property in the country for weekend visits and tries too hard to get in with the locals. Probably not far off Edina in Absolutey Fabulous!
